Teaching

I enjoy teaching both in class-based and field-based environments, and have been a teaching assistant on a number of undergraduate courses across geology and geophysics at Imperial. I am an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.

Other Service

Over the years I have sought out various opportunities to share my passion for geoscience with others. It is always a joy to chat with non-expert audiences who often ask extremely thought-provoking questions! I also believe that science communication and public engagement is of increasing importance in the UK where (not unlike other parts of the world) there are falling numbers of geoscience graduates (see e.g. here and here).

• Diss High School Plate Tectonics workshop to 12--13 yr old students (Jun 2024)

• Imperial Campus Tour Tour of Imperial to Sixth Form students from non-traditional academic backgrounds to encourage university applications (Apr 2024 & Feb 2025)

• Great Exhibition Road Festival Showcasing seismology and geoscience to general public (Jun 2023)

• Farnham Junior School Visit Teaching earthquakes to 8-9 yr old students (Feb 2023 & Mar 2024)

• Department EDI Committee Student Member Represent PhD students and raise profile of EDI within department

• Internal Research Seminars Convene weekly seminars to showcase PhD and PostDoc research within department (Dec 2022 - Dec 2025)

• BGA PGRiP 2024 Conference Co-organised academic conference for ~ 60 participants
